Widespread rain and winds hit Southern California, with mountain snow on the way
Forecasters are warning of strong winds and heavy overnight rain in Southern California this weekend, with heavy rain expected at the coast.
The National Weather Service office in Oxnard said Friday evening that gusts of 40 to 45 mph will be expected from late Friday to Sunday afternoon.
It’s not just Southern California that’ll be hit by the storms, though. In Ventura County alone, at least 15,000 people are under weather warnings, and the National Weather Service said at least 18,000 are under a watch for possible flooding.
In the San Fernando Valley, the National Weather Service said there’s a possible risk of power outages as a result of torrential rains and strong storms, and the National Weather Service warns of a risk of flash flooding in parts of the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Mountains and San Jacinto Mountains.
The high tides of this summer are already underway, and with strong, heavy rain or snow, it will add a layer of complexity to the already challenging situation of water supplies for people living in Southern California and other parts of the nation.
